We aim to provide an experience at a completely professional and advanced level. Our Internships are coveted and competitive and our selection process reflects that.

Research Internship

Data Research/Analyst

The GARI researcher position is a fluid role that involves furthering GARI’s central research projects as well as aiding in the day-to-day functions of the Institute. Researchers’ tasks include a diverse set of responsibilities including both traditional academic and conceptual research on subjects including historical, economic, and political events, as well as trade flows, energy, and technological innovation. Research may also include quantitative data collection and analysis. Data sourced from online databases and publicly available reports from private corporations and international organizations are utilized in GARI’s projects. 

Projects include work for the Ministry of Industry & Trade, international organisations, corporations, think tanks and government.

Whom we want to take on:

  • Individuals interested in cross-disciplinary topics (international affairs, globalisation, technology, security, economics, energy)

  • Individuals who are able to look and see outside the box and go beyond their ingrained style of thinking and expand their imaginations as to conceptualizing topics, subjects, ideas, as well as past, current and future affairs

 

Responsibilities and duties will include:

  • Doing qualitative as well as quantitative research on GARI related topics and projects

  • Creating Next 100 programme area portfolios (Politics, Society, Defence, Energy, Science, Technology and more)

  • Curating questions, scenarios and topic points for each programme area

Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD level, we will accept Bachelor level if the candidate is exceptional

  • Areas of Technology, Economy, Research, EU policy, Politics, International Relations, Globalisation, Geopolitics and similar

  • A strong sense of cross-disciplinarity, interest & knowledge in multiple fields

  • Experience in research (academic, scientific, methodology, referencing, analysis)

  • Interest in GARI subjects and topics

Skills:

  • Strong command of the English language

  • Communication: professional verbal and written communication

  • Methodology & referencing, literature reviews

  • Time Management: meet assignment deadlines and produce results

  • Adaptability: willingness to learn and adapt in various sectors of the organisation

  • Initiative: someone who doesn’t have to wait to receive direction for every task, and who’s willing to assist others

  • Receptiveness: ability to learn from mistakes and to address any weaknesses or shortcomings

GARI works in a very dynamic environment where a client enquiry needs to be addressed quickly. Often, Research Interns are assigned work the day of an inquiry from a client and must finish the initial conceptualisation within a week, including the presentation. This is one of the reasons we do not accept Interns that seek to do less than 15 hours a week. Someone energetic and inventive that will research and gather available data on international flows and events, help to create a dynamic, robust database, identify trends, correlate these trends with each other, and with significant developments in the global world or particular countries.  

 

Data Researcher

 

Responsibilities and duties will include:

  • Conceptualisation and operationalisation of researched phenomena

  • Investigating and searching for relevant data sources and databases

  • Data scraping and data mining, API querying

  • Scripting and preparing documentation

  • Data pre-processing

  • Updating and managing the database

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • General interest in data

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to write comprehensive reports

  • Experience with programming languages

  • Ability to work with large datasets

  • Basic SQL knowledge

 

 

Data analyst

 

Responsibilities and duties will include:

  • Data scraping and data mining, API querying

  • Data pre-processing

  • Updating and managing the database

  • Performing statistical analysis

  • Investigating and searching for innovative methods and tools for analysis suitable for research problems

  • Defining new data collection and analysis processes

 

Qualifications and Skills

 

  • An analytical mind and inclination for problem-solving

  • Ability to write comprehensive reports

  • Experience with programming languages

  • Ability to work with large datasets

  • Basic SQL knowledge

  • Basics of cloud computing

  • Interest in advanced analytical methods, machine learning / digital image processing

Business & Marketing

General responsibilities and duties

  • Create and implement online campaigns (SEO, Google Adwords, social media…)

  • Monitor web and social media analytics to identify viable ideas and trends

  • Conduct market research, gather information and prepare partnership plans

  • Identifying opportunities 

  • Podcast guest preparation, editing and publishing: research skills, sound editing and composition skills and social media and promotion formulation skills

  • Social media posts: brainstorming, selecting, forming and tagging - understanding and adopting the GARI style of writing, composition, and visual look.

  • Website editing: knowledge of the platform WIX, understanding and adopting the GARI style of writing, composition, and visual look, using WIX tools and Canva graphic design skills as well as adopting to mobile view.

  • Canva graphic design: understanding and adopting the GARI writing style, composition, and visual look, using Canva graphical tools.

  • Business and marketing strategy: brainstorming and designing strategy and planning for developing GARI's business as well as marketing GARI as a whole. Understanding GARI and what it's about, what GARI is striving to achieve as well as the method and style in which GARI wants to achieve it. 

 

Responsibilities and duties concerning the N100 Symposium:

  • Research and outreach with potential speakers, partners and media/press in relation to GARI work and events

    Organize facilities and manage all event details such as catering, entertainment, transportation, location, invitee list, special guests, equipment, promotional material etc, as well as ensure compliance with insurance, legal, health and safety

  • Researching international fundraising and partnership opportunities for GARI

  • ​Conduct pre and post-event evaluations and report on outcomes

Who we are looking for?

  • Educational background in the subject matter of GARI (international relations, economics, global governance, geopolitics), or other relevant fields of study

  • leader, team player

  • own incentive, drive and motivation

  • passionate about globalisation and interdisciplinarity (intersecting politics, business, technology, academics, research, etc)

  • previous communication experience - high-level professional emails, voice communication and in-person meetings

  • someone who has attention to detail, over-prepares and is very organised

  • experience in drafting proposals and professional emails, and experience with business decks is welcome

  • Prior experience in event communications/marketing/social media

  • Strong knowledge of working with Excel, Google Drive and its Documents is required

  • An interest in the intersection of technology and social sciences (politics, the economy, globalisation)

  • Skills in website editing in Wix and basic graphic design are useful

 

Required:
